Theory of Mass Influence Leadership
Mass Influence Leadership is different from all other types of leadership theories in that it focuses on four main ways to achieve leadership success:
- Leadership Super-Powers – These are the leadership attributes that make you valuable to yourself and other people. Examples include having a strong purpose, clear vision, responsibility, drive to succeed, courage to overcome obstacles, solve problems creatively, etc.
- Bonding With People – When you provide value to other people, and show them that you care about them, they develop trust in you. The resulting bond creates an influence relationship. Intensifying the bond by providing more value and respect will, in turn, create a stronger ability to impact the decisions of another person.
- Controlling The Environment – By influencing the environment, you can create the ideal conditions to achieve your leadership goals.
- Peripheral Influence Payout – As a result of developing leadership super-powers, creating bonds with other people, and modifying the environment to your advantage, you will experience what I call the “Peripheral Influence Payout.” Peripheral influence is influence that you didn’t intentionally create, but that came about because you achieved success in the other three areas of Mass Influence. For example, a strong reputation with people you’ve never met is one result of peripheral influence. The “Payout” part of the equation is attributed to the fact that you are paid in multiples for the immediate value that you provide to people.
